As the battle to succeed Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali, the out-going Vice-Chancellor of University of Ilorin, reaches advanced stage, aspirants would this week appear before an interview panel of the university.

The interview would be conducted by the selection committee set up by the University Council to choose a suitable candidate for the position of the Vice-Chancellor for a term of non-renewable five years.

The tenure of the incumbent VC is to come to a halt in October while the university has since commenced the process of filling the soon to be vacant slot.

The appointment process started with the advertisement of vacancy by the council with some qualified dons applying for the plum job.

Among the top contenders are former Dean of Business and Social Sciences, Professor Hassan Salihu, former Head of Department of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages, Prof. Ahmad Abdulsalam, former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Bayo Lawal, among others.

Our correspondent learnt that the selection of the next VC of the university is almost concluded with the interview slated for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

“After the interview, the candidate that took the first position is expected to be announced as the next Vice-Chancellor. We can safely say that the process is virtually concluded. The university is being meticulous in the selection process and the best candidate who meets the criteria stipulated by the university would be chosen”, said a source privy to the ongoing process.
